Instagram is reducing the visibility of political content in users’ feeds. Here’s how you can get around this limitation:

What’s Happening?

Instagram has announced that it will automatically limit political content in Explore, Reels, Feed Recommendations, and Suggested Users. This won’t affect content from accounts you follow.

Why the Change?

Meta, Instagram’s parent company, is concerned about the spread of misinformation and extremism on its platforms. They believe limiting political content will reduce these issues.

Defining Political Content

Instagram defines political content as “likely to mention governments, elections, or social topics that affect a group of people and/or society at large.”

Critics argue that social media platforms are important for sharing information and engaging communities. They worry that limiting political content could suppress posts about important issues, such as women’s rights, climate change, and LGBTQ+ issues.

How to Override the Limit

If you want to see more political content on Instagram, you can adjust your settings:

  1. Tap the three bars at the top right of your profile.
  2. Scroll down or search for “Content Preferences.”
  3. Click on “Political Content.”
  4. Select “Don’t Limit” to ensure political content is still recommended.
