The Netflix adaptation of “3 Body Problem” has left viewers with questions, including why it’s set in the UK. Here’s the explanation:

Logistical Reasons

Showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss explained that the UK setting was primarily a matter of convenience. They had worked with a UK crew in Northern Ireland on “Game of Thrones” and had a positive experience.

Familiar Territory

Benioff said they felt familiar with the UK, which made it easier to work there. They used recognizable landmarks such as Oxford University, the Strategic Intelligence Agency headquarters in London, and Piccadilly Circus.

Casting Connections

Benioff mentioned that they worked with a UK casting director and cast on “Game of Thrones” and were impressed by their talent. Many of these actors, including John Bradley and Jonathan Pryce, appear in “3 Body Problem.”

Shorthand and Experience

Benioff explained that working with the same people over time builds a “shorthand” and makes the process smoother. Despite the long travel distance, they chose to return to the UK because of their previous positive experience.
